Let’s say someone were to knock on your front door right now and ask to raid your fridge — would you let them? And if so, would they like what they saw? More importantly, would you have the right ingredients for them to cook up a delicious dish? That’s the name of the game on the upcoming new series Kitchen Crash, hosted by Jeff Mauro.
Beginning Wednesday, Jan. 6 at 10|9c, this anything-can-happen competition will bring culinary matchups to the streets as chefs come together for outdoor cookoffs while the neighbors supply the goods. Eager chefs will try to convince the folks at home to open up their fridges and hand over their ingredients. Chefs can use anything they get — provided it fits into a single bin, that is. It’ll be a one-and-done Kitchen Crash, as there’s no guarantee contestants will find exactly what they’re looking for AND there’s no chance to restock throughout the competition.
Just as they say you can’t judge a book by its cover, there’s no telling which houses will be stocked with premium goods, which are lacking in ingredient variety and which simply don’t want to play the game with the chefs. (Don’t be surprised if you see a few slammed doors!) Versatility and ingenuity will be key here. For the competitors to wow judges like Marcus Samuelsson and Leah Cohen, they must be able to cook something out of nothing, even when it seems impossible to do so. And all on the front lawn with homeowners cheering them on! Some will rise to the occasion with their resourcefulness while others will crumble under the weight of the crash
